Holimion, sometimes called the capital of magic, was a city in northeastern Balebu, near both Giant's and Korinn plains. Its most prominent feature was a tower adorned with a powerful eye that could shoot rays of destructive light over great distances.
History
The "Capital of Magic" was built by Lux Max, a mighty drow warlock. They erected their fortress on Bromalnor goblinoid land in a pact of mutual benefit: as an easily defended drow trade outpost, and both a trade partner and good defense for the goblinoids. Its massive dungeon's weapon protected them with radiant beams of energy against common fiendish incursions from Darkenblot and orcish raids.
After the Elvish Wars, Holimion became a trade outpost for drow from Gezneth
As the Trensandor Empire's humans expanded eastwards in 630 b. OW, Holimion made a new deal with them, surviving the conquest undamaged. After human independence, the settlement became the capital of the Rownors. By that kingdom's fall to orcish hosts in 353, Holimion's magic somewhat dissipated and was left abandoned until it was taken by the Ochebanian Empire. In 2 OW, orcs stormed over the lands and took control of the city, killing or enslaving all humans and liberating the drow, hoping for an alliance by leaving them alone with Holimion. An alliance was made.
The drow didn't remain for long, however: the Zannyr Empire was on the rise in the Caverealm, quickly severing the route between northern Gezneth and Holimion. The orcs left the city soon after, no longer having any interest in a few isolated drow who couldn't even make their ray work.
When the reborn Ochebana Empire's armies drove back the faltering orcs, they all fled, leaving the drow alone. The remaining drow occupants, at Zann'Elth's orders, were enslaved and put to humiliating tasks. The corridors to the Caverealm were reopened, allowing trade between the two empires. Holimion became one of the few large access points to the Caverealm.
In 228, weeks before the Ochebana Empire fell, dwarven armies simply marched into the city and took it over. Humans were enslaved or worse, some Zannyr drow executed and others kept as paid workers. Holimion stayed an important city, but under the control of the Dwarven Empire.
