Kerk'al LanguageLore - Language Canon
Kerk'al, sometimes called Dwarvish, was the dominant dwarven language, characterized by consistency and a stringent lack of change.
Traits
Guttural sounds, sharp k sounds, the vowels e and a, and a general "sharp" sounding were the hallmarks of the language.
Kerk'al's stability through history was carefully enforced by a variety of institutions. The dwarven language sharply contrasted with others in that there was very little etymological development, and it had distinct constructed aspects to its grammar and vocabulary. Although isolated enclaves occasionally developed derivatives and what became dialects, the overall language remained unchanged thanks to millennia-old tomes and the prestige of the ancients.
Historical Relevance
Although Kerk'al itself went through very little development, the language had much influence on Oshmondian etymology. Its constant presence throughout history, and the common interaction between imperial dwarven networks and other, less culturally established peoples, resulted in a strong influence on their languages. There were many major language that had roots in Kerk'al.
