Imperism, not to be confused with imperialism, was a movement of patriotism towards an empire.

Ideology

Movements advocating patriotism to empires, such as anti-independence groups or movements to restore past empires, were imperist. In essence, imperism is a variation of nationalism, but for empires.

Imperism rejected the theory that racial or cultural lines should define states, and instead embraced a greater imperial identity - perhaps historical loyalty to the crown, or the political and economic advantages of empires over smaller nation-states.
