The process of photgraphy described the way of mechanically capturing visual impressions on fixed media.
Precursors
There were various other ways of capturing moments on canvas, including painting or near-perfect but skill-requiring magical impressions. The latter was unquestionably superior in quality to all other visual representation techniques, but it required a spellcaster also skilled in art, which was rare, and duplication of such images was difficult.
History
Tsyenographs
In 144, a Holderhold researcher in a polar monastery discovered a process in which one could create negatives with short exposure times, as well as a process to duplicate such images. These black-and-white photographs were the first to come in widespread use due to the ease of their creation and no need for magical input; they were for example used for propaganda purposes by the Sun Empire[1].
