The Liberty Movement emerged in the years of unrest of the late 4th Empire.² It more of an amalgamation of the interests of the whole population than a unified movement.

Etymology

The term was initially coined by New Church clergy in Quirthdale,¹ and then spread across Balebu.

History

Background

The 4th Empire was riddled with problems, notably sexual and racial slavery, war, and civil strife between the Imperial and New churches. The idea of a revolutionary movement that was embodied by the New Church's Liberty Movement was very engaging to many people.

Republic Rule

Not much changed after the instauration of the Republic. Many rural nobles still retained control over their slave estates, while violence increased because of a lack of policing force. Religious violence also augmented as the New Church wiped out Imperialists.
