Weluchian ClergyLore - Organization Canon
881 b. OW - 321 b. OW
The Weluchian clergy was a pilgrist church consisting of a federal-style network of institutions, called knightly orders.
The majority of the Weluchian population was pilgrist; the largest minority, modern starquintists, did not form any significant institutions of its own. Thus, the pilgrist orders had the most influence on faith, and accordingly had a large influence on the government.
Notable Orders
Knights Star
The Knights Star were founded in 840 b. OW, when three different pilgrist orders decided to federate and form a governing body, much like how the secular government also consisted of one order coordinating many. Though initially mostly a power tool of the three large orders to incorporate and control the smaller orders, the Knights Star quickly grew into a strong independent order of its own, becoming in a sense the state church. The Knights Star had the religious power to dictate pilgrism's direction in Weluche, and often served as the mediators between other religious orders; notably, in most smaller communities, orders had to share churches, so Star officials supervised the construction and use of these buildings.
The order's chief keep, the Cathedral of Five, was located in Luche city.
Order of the Brilliant Leaf
One of the Knights Star's founding orders, the Order of the Brilliant Leaf was primarily devoted to Tyr, and had a significant following across the Luche archipelago. Its members often studied the arts of gardening and healing, using knowledge and sometimes magic to perfect their art. Brilliant Leaf Knights often accompanied Welfare knights on village tours, helping the locals save their fields or treating the sick.
Though this order was very decentralized and didn't have a governing body or chief keep per se, its main keeps were the Temples of Life in Luche city and Tan Mena, on San Morin.
Knights Bloody
These warrior-knights trained rigorously in the arts of fighting, survival, and battle healing. Their spinoff order, the Knights Penitent, were their light, scouting equivalent. They often served as cadres for various militias, were officers in the Weluchian Sentinels, or served alongside Dwarven troopers. They were devoted to Tempus.
The order's chief keep was Caumen Castle in Dynnegall.
Knights Integral
The Order of Integrity advocated a pure interpretation of pilgrism, without any of the taints of external influences or secular life. They were secluded monks who primarily resided in their isolated monasteries in the Ogrefierce mountains; occasionally, fanatic monks would tour villages in the archipelago, praising faithful pilgrists and chastising all those who failed to properly adere to the Apostle's Legacy. The Knights Integral often had disputes with the Knights Star.
Their chief keep was Candle Keep, in Okfiers.
