The Woodlands Legion was a powerful wood elven army during the Elvish Wars.
Structure
The Woodlands Legion had a single commander; either an Elevate Commander in the form of House Tammanamay's Hunt Master, or the Woodland Lady.
The military hierarchy went down to Hunt Master (initially the commanders of each house's armed forces, but later this became an officer rank detached from individual houses), Bow Master, and Leader.

History
House Tammanamay had closed a pact of protection with nearly all wood elven houses of the Elvish Empire, which gave it authority to raise and command the Woodlands Legion - a levy force consisting of the armed forces of all houses - in order to protect all houses from outside threats.
Tammanamay Command
House Tammanamay exercised its political authority in 4'158 at the outbreak of the Elvish Wars, using the united army to protect the expansive wood elven territories in the northern and central Shattered Continent under the command of Elevate Commander Tammam, House Tammanamay's Hunt Master.
However, Tammanamay command was heavily criticized. On one hand, house autonomy and competition meant the Woodlands Legion had too little authority, too few soldiers, and too little resources to properly wage war; and Tammanamay used the Legion exclusively to protect its own lands, and those of its most important allies.
New Miamey Federation
Under the authority of the New Miamey Federation's Woodland Lady, the Woodlands Legion became the federal armed forces. Their ranks were considerably enlarged, and the hierarchy was properly detached from individual houses. The army also received proper funding, making it a much more potent force; it even received a small navy of its own, the Wave Stags.
The Legion was not exclusively used for waging war, but also for law enforcement within the federation. Over time, the Legion increasingly participated in unpopular government excesses such as the stripping of noble power, enforcing martial law, and arresting or executing rebels. Starting in 3'945, the Legion began waging conflicts against rebels within the federation and even mutineering units.
The Legion was disbanded in 3'937 as the federation collapsed.
