Proud Dragon FaithLore - Religion Canon
Arishngh'ergh'
Values
Individual autonomy, selfism, right of the strongest, racial superiority of true dragons
Basic Structure
- Problem: the world is a fierce place, where everyone is pitted against everyone
- Solution: the strongest have a right to rule and can live as they please, ignoring everyone else
- Technique: only pursue your own interests, exploit lessers, and work together with equals only for mutual gain
- Patrons: Ishnarr
The draconic principle of Pride, for the sake of clarity called Proud Dragon Faith and by the dragons themselves Arishngh'ergh', was a kind of religion practiced by many metallic dragons, especially older ones.
Precepts
True dragons were the most superior form of life in the multiverse, and accordingly they - especially the strongest specimens of their race - were entitled to sit at the top of the mortal hierarchy and do however they please. True followers of the Arighngh'ergh', dragons calling themselves Proud Ones, accordingly lounged in their wealthy domains or soared above the territory that was theirs. Kobold and humanoid servants built their residence and made their jewelry and decorations, while drakes - as often as not created out of the scales and blood of their enemies - protected their territory.
Proud Dragon Faith was a quite natural evolution from dragons' mindset and their physical reality. Indeed, ancient dragons were virtually unequaled in both physical and magical power among the mortal races, and - though they were very intelligent and enjoyed physical comforts - their physiognomy was not adapted to construction or work of any kind. Virtually all dragons had servants, the entire races of kobolds and drakes were initially their servants. Thus the concepts of the Pure Dragon Faith were relatively self-evident, and in fact more of a lifestyle than a religion for its practicioners.
The Deal with Ishnarr
The god Ishnarr, sometimes identified as the first thinker and source of Proud Dragon Faith, made an special deal with his followers, which in the context of other religions might be understood as the equivalent of the relationship between a deity and their followers. Ishnarr gave his Proud Ones access to his great resources: his servants were their servants, he gave them wealth and influence (notably to build the huge temple complexes in his name on Dragonia), he sometimes granted them access to arcane knowledge, magical power, or artifacts, and he gave them unity and leadership when necessary and beneficial (though most of the time he didn't bother with all these "insignificant" affairs, and his handmaidens or other servants handled the finer details of serving the Proud Ones and handling issues of war with other factions).
In return, the Proud Ones recognized Ishnarr as the greatest among them and bowed their heads to him. In addition, they were bound to follow his instructions, which he rarely but occasionally gave; this was mostly the case when it was not in the personal interest of certain dragons to, say, protect a temple of Ishnarr from a raid, and so his handmaidens compelled them to come together and go to war for some time.
