Firbolg, from the families of Fanged Teeth
Characteristics
Tall, delicate, soft-spoken. Careful and considerate.
Inaron, son of Talinan, was a firbolg of the Fanged Teeth families who lived mostly in central Undine, serving notably as a ranger in the Elturgard region.
Appearance
Inaron was tall and handsome, and liked to dress in well-tailored clothes that suited this appearance. He preferred to think before he spoke and was not loud.[1]
Biography
Inaron was raised in the traditional firbolg fashion by his mother, Talinan. Though he enjoyed practicing the fundaments of druidic magic, he was not very good at it. He did demonstrate some skills at understanding nature and was very tough, with an exceptional endurance. He seemed to be able to survive days-long hikes in torrential rain with only a handful of berries and roots for sustenance.
Ranger
He spent some time with the druids of Fanged Teeth forest and with two rangers, which he came to see as older brothers. He was appointed state ranger in 574 b. OW and pursued his duties in the vast reaches of Elturgard, often staying away from roads and villages for days on end while patrolling against poachers, messy squatters, and dangerous monsters. His travels occasionally brought him to the shore of the Lake of Fallen Stars and the foothills of the towering Sunset Mountains.
When Ochebana began raiding into Undine territory in 550 b. OW, Inaron was enraged and headed south. At first, he joined the Green Fields' rangers, but he grew frustrated because they had firm instructions to merely track and report raiders, and only attack single targets. He went to Sapto and asked Lady Cassilda to join the renowned elven Green Arrows anti-raid militia, but she refused to accept him "on the simple grounds that [a firbolg] is biologically incompatible with the methods of operation of the Green Arrows". Frustrated, he joined an improvised group instead.
After the raids stopped, Inaron returned north, where occasional tribes of orcish squatters who had made it across the Everflow and past the orders guarding the border now occasionally popped up. He sometimes convinced them to peacefully integrate society, usually by founding their own isolated village, and sometimes fought them on his own, harassing the small tribes from a place of hiding and now and again chasing them up into the Sunset Mountains.
Guerilla
When Ochebana became a threat once again two decades later, Inaron headed south again, and this time was accepted into the Green Arrows. He saw very little skirmishing however before the imperial army marched in and overcame Undine's feeble defenses. Inaron and his squad pestered Ochebanian supplies and patrols for a while, but soon realized that Ochebana would not leave anytime soon and that he risked being captured any day, as Ochebanian troops began garrisoning even mid-sized settlements and rounding up firbolgs for deportation or execution.
Like most Green Arrows, Inaron opted to take a low profile and continue fighting the empire through any means possible. He chose to go south, away from the mass killings, to hurt Ochebana in its heartland. He subsisted mostly from the wilderness, occasionally working for coin from farming villages and sometimes lodging an arrow in lone soldiers or officials.
In 515, Inaron headed up into the Snaketeethed Mountains' foothills, to a spot where he had seen a pair of griffins make their nest. He killed the baby and carried it on its back for two days, out into the fertile land of Londer's Land near the Nagaflow. He thus attracted the baby's male father, which made a nest next to its dead child (also spiked with herbs which further enraged the beast) and began attacking humans and supply wagons below.
The army, having already lost two wagons, chose to hire sellswords to get rid of the beast (it did not have much manpower in the area, due to border conflicts and the Undine troubles). The first group that headed out attracted the griffin to its campsite in the night, and Inaron - who had followed them - shot most of them with his arrows before they could have a chance to hurt the griffin. The next group was hired a few days later and sent up Windswept, the hill on which the griffin had made its lair. This time, Inaron was too late, and he arrived just late enough to see the griffin killed and the party spot him.[1] Resigned to his fate, he did not attempt to flee, and admitted to the sellswords' accusations that he had lured the beast and attacked the previous group. They knocked him out and brought him to the nearby military garrison, where he was unceremoniously executed.
