Human AuxiliaryLore - Organization Canon

929 b. OW - 552 b. OW

The Human Auxiliary was a human religious and military organisation in the Trensandor Empire. It was the only "regular" armed force composed from humans, and the only human force to operate outside Colupan.

It was a very high-status institution, seen as the highest possible position a human could reach. The Auxiliary was exclusively for women (as was Andan custom for spiritual roles). The Auxiliary's specialty was channeling fey magic - known as spirits to the Andan - for use in religious rituals and especially to complement combat tasks.[2]

Operational History

The Auxiliary was founded in 929 b. OW, in cooperation between human Acceptance leader of the recently invaded Colupan, shamans of Brekka and other goblinoid spirituals, and powerful Andan officers[1]. Human girls with affinity for fey magic were enrolled in Brekka shaman-led monasteries, where they engaged in a life of spiritual education and martial training. Initially, the religious role stood in the foreground, and one of the Auxiliary's missions was policing the human regions on Colupan.

The Auxiliary participated in limited Andan campaigning on Morykr Gruibos from 919 - 914, getting involved in the civil war.[1] This was the first time the Auxiliary was used in a combat role, and the 60-strong contingent soon learned it worked best as a light, highly mobile scouting and skirmishing unit in rough terrain.

The Auxiliary spearheaded an expedition to Magen, an island off Colupan's northern shore, in 870 b. OW. [1]

A large Auxiliary force, almost reaching 1'000 strong at times, was deployed in the lands of the spiritual mission in the Sevanoron Drummir Alluvium, starting sometime in the mid-800s, to both protect them and the Morykr southern border. It was only drawn off and reduced to a skeleton force in 831. The commander-in-chief of the Auxiliary and the holy lands at the time was legaye Alynn Ingenye[1] At the same time, a chapter was deployed in the southeastern foothills and mountains since 882, securing this flank, helping control and raid the Hill Orcs to the east, and in the 820s assisting in politics to make Sevanor into a tynseg. The chapter remained there through the regression of 815-805.

Heik Trensandor chose to support Ordenye's clevibs' campaigning in the Turlian Tuenellag by sending supplies and a few Auxiliary detachments, starting 831 and drawing on for several years.

The Auxiliary participated in efforts to reach the Feywild starting in 820, notably by building the expansive Farnek complex. They were part of the Mirkarr-led force to enter the Feywild and treat with Dame Vendra.

In the early 700s, the Auxiliary was heavily evolved in combat against a Feywild insurgency led notably by Carindyr.[4]

In 759, a cohort chased down renegade bugbears who sought refuge among rebel humans on Colupan.[2]

The Ferdrskjisle Auxiliary Group was deployed in the Ferdrskjisle from 666 - 633 was to garrison the fringe of human settlement in the region, maintaining order especially so that trade resources could flow into the wealthier central islands (where the regular army had garrisons). The main base and headquarters was the Garrison Diocese 2 in Ferdrheim.[3] One of the outlying outposts was the Garrison Chapter 28, based in Trebkernstad. The Auxiliary Group was withdrawn ahead of an orcish invasion of the region.

Huge armies of Auxiliaries led the invasion of Balebu in the 630s, after the goblinoids lost this territory a few years earlier.

Buildings History

  • 929: The Ineran Convent is founded in the high hills northwest of Densk, as a monastery for the first generation of Auxiliaries. It initially held space for 134 women in two "classes".
  • ?: The Convent of Swords is founded near the Northern Pass through the Sword Mountains, as a secondary monastery with a greater focus on patrolling, mountaineering, and the martial side of things.
  • 819: A research site is established in the midst of the Kyrdanyon forest to explore connections to the Feywild. The complex of Farnek, the Auxiliary's largest monastery, would be built here.
  • 805: The Farnek Convent is formally established at the site of the Farnek Crossing.
  • 802: The Ascendance Convent is established in the Feywild, as an outpost on the way to scaling the Grand Plateau.
  • ca. 795: The Auxiliary's new improved status means all five Kyrdanyon convents are renamed to monasteries.
