Military

Archea primarily focused on its navy. It had a huge and powerful fleet, with warships modeled off of the Dwarven Royal Navy's. It also had a large land army.

Foreign Relations

Archea sided with the civilized states against savage advance. It notably was one of the unitarian coalition's founding members. It also liked to trade with the Cupriens.

Predecessors

Weluche Order, Denise Empire

The state of Archea, sometimes called Denisite Archea, was a nation encompassing the southern Archaen islands.

History

In 320 b. OW, the eastern Denise Empire dispatched a large fleet to invade the southern Archaen ocean. It succeeded, founding a military dictatorship which ruled the ethnically different natives with an iron fist. Quite quickly, however, the chancellor government turned more moderate and worked towards creating a true common nation. Archea successfully became one of the first large human nations and removed itself completely from imperial Denisite rule.

International Involvement: Unitarianism

Archea was relatively close with the Cuprien Empire, with which it traded. It became a human heaven in 295 b. OW, when it decided to incorporate Dwarven unitarianism in its constitution. This made the first point on foreign policy the protection of fellow civilized states, mainly against savage aggression from the northeast. This was the birth of the coalition.

Relations with Cuprien got worse because the fiercely independent state feared a more powerful neighbor, but then improved after the first League-coalition conferences. Archea invested many military resources, namely its larger Second Fleet, into the war against ogres - despite not having a border that was threatened by them. Archea later even fought alongside Cuprien land troops when Litchy was falling to ogre hosts despite decades of animosity.

During the Bamean Crisis around 155 b. OW, the Archean people realized how morally incoherent their law was. The navy was unable to intervene on Ochebanian Bamea, where there were serious crimes of slavery, military hostility to peaceful neighbors and racial segregation, because all this was legal in Archea too. There followed sweeping reforms, including the introduction of humanoid rights, the concept of natural law, political reforms including separation of powers and some representative governments, and religious and nobility reforms. Archean law became the fundament of modern states.

Government

The Archean state was ruled from Midway by a hereditary chancellor. The state was split into smaller provinces, each of which was run by a duke and lower nobility. They were all subject to the central government, of course.

Post-Bamean Crisis, 155 b. OW

The government was split into three branches. The chancellor controlled the executive, namely the military and the guard, and was still a noble office. The judiciary branch, however, was democratically elected, from the nationally chosen High Court to the regional Province and Local courts. This was a progressive element of the new state. This also took most judiciary roles away from the archeist clergy, a revolutionary step. Finally, the Council of Rights - consisting of officials who were elected for life - made the laws.

The split of the government branches was also exemplified by their locations: the Chancellor's Palace was in Midway, the Palace of Rights was in Luche, and the High Palace was in San Digo.
